Doin' TIME in Leavenworth PDF Print E-mail

DAY 1 

Arrive in Leavenworth, Kansas

Noon-l:00 pm - Meal served by the "Harvey Girls'" at the Riverfront Community Center, 123 S. Esplanade, housed in the renovated 1888 Union Depot, $9.00-10.75 with check directed to the City of Leavenworth,   Menu.  

1:15-2:00 pm - Check into your hotel with a reception of cookies, punch and coffee.  A "prisoner" will greet your group on the motorcoach giving them each a button that says "I Did TIME in Leavenworth", telling them that this is their passport to get OUT of Leavenworth!  Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors will be there to welcome group members to Leavenworth. A gift bag full of goodies and welcome letter will be in everyone's room.

*Everyone will have their picture taken behind a Leavenworth jail front, $2.00 per person.

NOTE:  Everyone MUST have a picture ID upon entering the Fort.

2:15-2:45 pm - Meet former Buffalo Soldiers at the Buffalo Soldier Monument at Fort Leavenworth, $4.00 per person with check made out to the KC/LV Buffalo Soldier Assn.

*2:45-4:30 pm - Guided tour of Ft. Leavenworth, the oldest fort west of the Mississippi River in continuous operation, $4.00 per person.

Self-guided tour of the Frontier Army Museum, $4.00 donations accepted with check directed to them.

4:40-5:40 pm - Guided tour of the First City Museum, 743 Delaware, $4.00 per person donation accepted.

6:00-7:00 pm - Dinner at the Santa Fe Depot Diner, 781 Shawnee, Meatloaf, mashed potatoes, vegetable, roll, cobbler, $10.00. (tax & tip incl.).

The "Possum Holler Four" barbershop quartet, dressed in convict outfits, can sing for your group for $40.00 with check directed to them

NOTE: Local theater productions available certain dates at the 1930's Art Deco Theater located in historic downtown area, $8.00 per person, OR Tour one or two of Leavenworth's Vintage Homes, $4.00 per person per house with check directed to LCHS.  

DAY 2

8:00-9:00 am - Continental Breakfast at your hotel.

*9:00-10:00 am - Guided tour of Leavenworth, the "First City of Kansas", $4.00 per person.

10:00-11:00 am - Guided tour of the Carroll Mansion, 1128 Fifth Avenue, built in 1867.  The mansion boasts beautiful stained glass windows and elaborately carved woodwork, $4.00 per person with check directed to LCHS.

11:15 am-12:45 pm - Guided tour and carousel ride at the C. W. Parker Carousel Museum, Esplanade & Choctaw Sts., $5.00 per person

12:45-1:45 pm - Lunch Buffet at the High Noon Saloon, Slow-roasted Pulled Pork, baked beans, coleslaw, gourmet cookie, $12.00 (tax & tip incl.).

2:00 pm - Shopping in historic downtown Leavenworth on Delaware Street.
